What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that stimulates your skin’s natural healing process to produce collagen and elastin, two proteins essential for maintaining firm, smooth skin. During the procedure, thin needles create tiny punctures in the skin, triggering the body’s healing response and promoting the regeneration of new, healthy skin cells.

What is Autologous Serum and How Does It Work?

Autologous serum therapy is a cutting-edge cosmetic procedure that uses the healing properties found in your blood to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin. Autologous serum is derived from a small sample of your blood, which is processed to isolate the platelets (a specialized type of blood cell) and other beneficial components. These platelets contain essential proteins called growth factors that send signals to your body to initiate tissue repair, collagen production, and overall skin regeneration. When combined with microneedling, autologous serum is applied to the skin immediately after the treatment. The tiny channels the microneedles create allow the autologous serum to penetrate deeply into the skin, where it can work its skin regeneration magic. The growth factors and other bioactive substances in autologous serum will stimulate positive cell turnover, leading to smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin.

What Can Microneedling with Autologous Serum Do For Me?

Microneedling with autologous serum provides a host of benefits to our clients. Here are the top ones:

Improves the appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles

Microneedling with autologous serum helps to remodel the skin and fill in depressed areas such as acne scars and stretch marks. The growth factors present in PRP further enhance tissue regeneration, leading to smoother and more even skin texture.

Reduces the appearance of enlarged pores and fine lines

The microneedling process creates vertical microchannels in the skin, which triggers the skin’s natural healing response. This helps to tighten and firm the skin, reducing the appearance of enlarged pores and fine lines.

Addresses skin discoloration and uneven skin tone

Microneedling with autologous serum can help to improve skin discoloration and uneven skin tone by promoting the turnover of damaged skin cells and stimulating the production of new, healthy cells.

Helps tighten loose or creepy skin

By stimulating collagen and elastin production, microneedling with PRP can help to tighten loose or crepey skin. The micro-injuries created during microneedling trigger the skin’s natural repair process. As a result, the treatment can help to firm and lift drooping skin, giving it a more youthful appearance.

Who Can Benefit from Microneedling?

Microneedling is suitable for a wide range of individuals in moderate to good health; almost anyone can benefit from this therapy. If you have a skin condition, such as eczema or open cold sores, you should avoid treatment until the area has cleared up. Medical microneedling devices are FDA-approved for use on patients aged 22 or older. If you are a younger adult or are assisting a minor with skin-related concerns, please consult our office about the best treatment for your unique needs.

Getting Started: What to Expect

Before undergoing microneedling, you’ll have a consultation to discuss your goals and assess your skin’s condition. First, a small sample of your blood is harvested and processed to prepare the autologous serum. Your skin is cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic to ensure comfort.

A device with tiny needles is then passed over your skin to create controlled, tiny channels. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the procedure can take 15 minutes to a few hours. The autologous serum is then applied to the skin, flowing through the tiny channels into the deeper skin layers where it does the most good.

What Is the Recovery?

After microneedling, you may experience redness, swelling, and mild discomfort, which usually subside within a few days. Most people can resume their normal activities immediately, although avoiding sun exposure is essential until your skin has healed completely. While results may vary, individuals notice improvements in their skin’s texture and appearance within a few weeks to a few months following treatment, depending on their skin’s condition. Many patients experience noticeable improvements in their skin’s appearance after just one session, with optimal results typically achieved after a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.

What can this procedure treat?

This treatment is highly effective for a wide range of skin concerns, including fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin texture and tone. It also helps to improve skin firmness and elasticity for a more youthful appearance.

How is the procedure performed?

The procedure begins with a blood draw. While the blood is being processed to create the autologous serum, a topical numbing cream is applied to your face. The serum is then applied to your skin as the microneedling device is used to create micro-injuries, allowing the serum to be absorbed deep into the skin.

How many treatments are needed?

For best results, a series of treatments is usually recommended. Most patients receive three to four sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart, to allow for optimal skin regeneration.

When will I see the results?

You may notice a more radiant glow to your skin immediately. The full results are gradual, as new collagen and elastin are produced over the weeks and months following your sessions. The most noticeable improvements will appear after a few months.
